Interview with the CTO, Mr. Chan
Breaking the Sound Barrier: The Revolutionary Advancements of Glass Diaphragms.
As consumers continue to demand high-performance display panels, the need for high-quality audio in computers, communication, and consumer electronics is on the rise. In response, manufacturers are constantly seeking new ways to enhance their products. GAIT, has recently made waves in the industry, and is the exclusive provider of glass diaphragms for speakers.
To learn more about this exciting new technology, we sat down with Kit Chan, the CTO of Glass Acoustic Innovations Co., Ltd (GAIT).
According to Kit, who has over 22 years of experience in the acoustics field, one of the most recent groundbreaking developments in the industry is the use of glass diaphragms in speakers. "Glass is a relatively new material for speaker diaphragms," Kit explains. "But it has already proven its acoustic features, by excelling in acoustic performance only thought composite materials could achieve. Glass stands between polymer and metallic materials, with physical properties as strong as metallic materials, yet has damping effects like plastic polymers, providing even wider frequencies, clearer treble, and more majestic bass. This improvement in sound quality is due to high Young’s modulus, fast medium sound speed, lighter than metal, proper damping etc, which allows for more accurate reproduction of sound.
In addition to the acoustic enhancements, glass diaphragm has positive implications for the environment. As a recyclable material, glass is the ideal solution for companies looking to prioritize environmental, social, and governance elements (ESG) in their products. Kit emphasizes that " GAIT recognizes the importance of sustainability and recyclability to reduce hazardous waste, such as plastic. Glass diaphragms are environmentally friendly compared to other diaphragm materials, which is of paramount importance in the fragile state of our world today".
The sound produced by glass diaphragms is crisp and unmasked, making it an excellent choice for high-quality audio products." One of the reasons glass diaphragms are only just starting to come into use in speakers is that it has taken time to develop the glass recent technology to create them. "We don’t have ultra-thin glass (UTG) until recent years," says Kit. "UTG was only used in touch panels. The iPhone just came out when UTG started to be developed. But now, we have successfully developed glass into a speaker diaphragm, turning a piece of UTG into a piece of finished product with 3D curvature that no one else has done. This allows us to match the speakers cone design."Another advantage of glass diaphragms is their stability. "Glass is very stable under any circumstances, weather, humidity, acidity...etc," says Kit. "Physical properties coefficient are not changed under high humidity or other conditions. This makes glass diaphragms an excellent choice for audio products that need to perform consistently in a variety of environments.
"One of the most exciting aspects of glass diaphragms, according to Kit, is their potential for new product designs." The transparency of glass diaphragm material is a significant advantage for the audio industry," he explains. "It leads to unlimited potential in product designing. Glass is hard enough not to deform, so the existing speaker design can be thinned. By coating and offering a new product design with glass, we can overturn the previous impression of traditional speakers."
Finally, Kit emphasizes GAIT Glass's commitment to providing the best possible sound quality to their customers. "We can enhance the value of our customers by providing exceptional speaker diaphragm materials never before seen in the market," he says. He also highlights the potential of glass diaphragms to revolutionize not only the audio industry but also the computers, communication, and consumer electronics industries, not only by improving sound quality but also by introducing innovative product designs. Kit believes that the potential of glass diaphragms in the future of audio technology is enormous. "The sound quality has proven to be superior," he says. "So hopefully, the glass diaphragm will bring about an improvement in speaker design."
With GAIT's successful use of glass diaphragms in speakers, GAIT is well-positioned to be at the forefront of this revolutionary development in the audio industry, leading the way in delivering exceptional sound quality and innovative product designs to customers.
